Practical Methods for Administering Quality Systems

20 years before anyone in the US heard of ISO 9000, Juran proposed the same ideas. He described comprehensive, documented quality management systems that were backed up by performance metrics and quality audits. Juran also pioneered quality circles and teams long before these ideas became cliche.
I find Juran immensely useful in my quality practice. This book remains one the standard works that I keep going back to. Juran's concepts are much more "applied" than "theoretical". Deming's works seem so distant, and esoteric. Juran has been there, done that. And, his methods work!

the fact that none of the exercises have solutions is bothersome. i also had difficulty determining which ideas/equations have more emphasis than others. this book shouldn't be used as an introductory course due to its mediocre-at-best layout.

Bad presentation

This book explains linear programming concepts using tableaus. Tableaus are obsolete. If you want to solve a linear program, you use Maple, Mathematica, Matlab, GNU Octave or some other computer program. If you want to understand the simplex algorithm, you should study the linear algebra approach, and not tableaus.

The book is badly organized, the font is ugly and the theory is spread over zillions of examples. Definitions are hard find. The algorithms are presented in a very cumbersome manner. The exercises are so many you don't bother even to read them. I would be nicer with a few, carefully selected, exercises.

The book would not be nice for an introductory course since everything is presented in such an obfusacted way. For a second course, it's not useful either, since instead of solid theory it contains only the mentioned zillions of examples.

There are better books...

I found this book to be not so good for non linear programming. The notation is confusing and the discussion of subject itself is not organised. I prefer other books like the book by Bertsekas. I followed Bazaara's book for linear programming and hence I dont know about this book's linear programming.

As one studies algebra, there is a common situation that the theorems get obscurity, immediately if you do not follow them on some concrete examples. And also a very common thing with the presentations is that the theorems follow without any motivation. This book provides lots of examples and motivations which make one understand the concepts clearly.

One of the Best Books ever on Abstract Algebra

Words can barely communicate how good this book is. Although the authors state in the preface that this is an undergraduate book, I think the material developed in the book covers most of graduate level Abstract Algebra as taught in the United States.The book actually contains 253 fully solved problems something sorely lacking in most American Textbooks. For some strange reason most American Authors think that just presenting a few theorems and examples in Abstract Algebra is enough ground for a student to be able to attack and solve theoretical exercises .This is how post calculus textbooks in U.S should be written , but unfortunately they are not.We have become accustomed to such low standards that trash textbooks like Hungerford and Gallian get 4 to 5 stars on this website. One of the Indian Author's of this text (M.K Sen) has also coauthored another masterpeice in Abstract Algebra (Topics in Abstract Algebra published by Universities Press India).Besides the solved problems in the textbook , there is also a lot of very concrete examples .Of course there is also a lot of exercises to make the student think on his/her own.The book contains many advanced topics like Galois theory , Artinian and Noetherian Rings and even some Coding theory.All topics are presented very clearly.For anybody who wants to learn Abstract Algebra on any level ,this book is a must .Five Stars.

About the Author

Bill and Jan Moeller were cruising sailors and liveaboards for more than twenty years before moving aboard a "land yacht"--an RV. In their fourth boat, a 32-foot cutter, they traversed the Intracoastal Waterway many times. Every few years, the Moellers return to the ICW to update their guide. At other times, they travel the country in their RV, writing and taking photos for their books on American history.

This book is extremely useless

We bought this book in summer 2002 for our trip down the ICW that fall. We bought it based on the fact it was a "Fourth Edition" ! It is SO out of date it is not funny, and in fact could be dangerous to rely on it, or at least an inconvenience. It might be somewhat useful if they updated it. After using Skipper Bob's Anchorages book, and his Marina guide, (which combined, cost less than the Moeller book) I would say these are the bible of ICW travel. They provide mile by mile anchorage info and rankings, and marina info such as types of fuel, price, slip prices, etc. VERY USEFUL and up to date info. They are updated every year, with changes to anchoranges/marina info submitted by the author, as well as the readers.

Good Summary Book

This is an excellent book for quick reference of your trip. I use it alot in the cockpit, but find more detail would be better. The layout is good for going north to south, but I find the backwards reading (South to North) a little difficult to follow. I recommend this as a companion book along with others, but not as a stand alone book unless you are the casual boater (weekender)

Totaly worthless book with no information not on a chart

This book example: ABC marina turn right at bouy "1".

End of story, no info on marina size, what to do, facilities etc.

No idea what anything is like or what the location of the marinas, etc.

Another example: Anchorage to right 0.3 mile off ICW channel.

That is all in info provided.
