This is a must....

This book is a must for ANY professional working in the finished-goods/products Fulfillment/Distribution world. If your work and responsibilities span anywhere within a FC/DC, you should pick up this book. For less than one hundred bucks, you get one of the best written, concise handbooks I have ever encountered.

It's very important to note that this is not just a dictionary-like handbook, but rather a book that is actually easily readble and enjoyable. It is not for novices, but for anyone with some level of experience, the book comes to life and will help you build depth.

I work for a major e-retailer that disbributes products to end customers. Having worked many years here and picking up most of the know-how from experience alone, I am now questioning why our learning dept doesn't have the insight to make this book a "required" manual for all when we first started. It is excellent and provides great explanations and applications .

Buy it. If I ran a DC/FC, this is a must read for all my mgrs and jr mgrs.

Great warehousing and material handling book

This is the best book I've ever found on material handling and warehouse storage. Though a little pricey, this book has content that makes it well worth the cost. Extensive detail on material handling and storage equipment. Also has separate chapters dedicated to small item warehouses, case-pick warehouses, and pallet warehouses.
Anyone designing a new warehouse or redesigning an existing one should read this book.

for all time - the Lineman's Bible

This book was first printed in 1928, well after the trade first put on climbers. Since it's first printing it has been THE textbook for the lineman's trade. It has been used in virtually every apprentice program and was the companion of self taught linehands from the '30s on. Frequently updated, it remains the one place a linehand, beginner to veteran, can go for help. It has progressed with the technology of the trade, the regulations and codes, the materials, and the processes for doing very dangerous work in well thought out procedures that enable electric customers to maintain their service and even be unaware of the work of the power lineman.

A must have book for any and all linemen and groundmen. This is the book you use to measure how long you have been in the trade. You buy one when you start and keep updating till you die. It would be nice to see some other text books for this subject but they would have a tough time keeping up. It is the Bible for Line workers

About the Author

Seymour Lipschutz is on the faculty of Temple University and formerly taught at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn College. Marc Lipson is on the faculty of the University of Georgia and formerly taught at Northeastern University and Boston University. He received his Ph.D. in finance in 1994 from the University of Michigan. He is also the coauthor of 3,000 Solved Problems in Discrete Mathematics with Seymour Lipschutz.

Excellent companion to your university textbook.

Did you get stuck with a textbook (like Richard Johnsonbaugh's Discrete Mathematics - Fourth Edition) for your university Computer Science/ Discrete Mathematics course that just doesn't explain the concepts you're trying to learn? I definitely encourage you to purchase this book. However, along with this book you should also buy "2000 Solved Problems in Discrete Mathematics" in Schaum's Solved Problems Series. While the book I'm reviewing here has some problems and solutions, this additional book provides many variations of these problems, allowing you to look at problems from the different angles that will probably show up on your next exam.

Excellent study guide for students of discrete math and computer science

Discrete mathematics, or the study of finite systems, has become increasingly important for students of computer science, and this book is a good foundational text on the subject. This Schaum's outline is much more complete than the average Schaum's, and it is also very clear and instructive. It is not just a good text for discrete mathematics. It also covers the basics of abstract algebra and the basics of the theory of computation.

The first 3 chapters cover sets, relations, functions, and algorithms, including a very good section on the complexity of algorithms. Chapter 4 is on logic and propositional calculus, which is the foundation of artificial intelligence and digital logic. The next three chapters cover the basics of vectors, matrices, counting (permutations and combinations), and probability theory. This material is important in the design and analysis of operating systems. Next are chapters on graph theory, directed graphs, and binary trees, all of which should be covered in any good course on the analysis of algorithms. These chapters include discussions of planarity, traversibility, minimal paths, and Warshall's and Huffman's algorithms. There is a chapter on languages and machines that includes material on regular expressions, automata, Turing machines, and computable functions. There is also a chapter dedicated to the very basics of abstract algebra, and another chapter on boolean algebra.

This text is therefore a superset of what you will probably find in an upper level undergraduate class in discrete mathematics, and is definitely a book you want to keep around especially if you are a computer science student and need additional study material for your core courses of artificial intelligence, analysis of algorithms, operating systems, and theory of computation. Highly recommended.

Too Simple

I bought this book to help me survive my Discrete Math class, and ended up thoroughly disappointed. It's just too simple to be of any use. The examples it goes over are the obvious ones I've never had any trouble with, but more involved problems or complex proofs are nowhere to be found in the text. In the end I ended up relying on my course text much more than this, and I already had that book to begin with.

A must for people in any phase of distillation field

This is the more complete book on practical aspects of distillation and absorption. From design (together with the companion book Distillation Design) to startup and troubleshoot. The last subject is also covered by other books, relating to the subject himself, but on distillation and absorption columns this is the only book not out-of-print; note that it covers also mechanical aspects usually fund only on Best Prectices by Engineering and Contracting Company.

Essential for Chemical Engineers

I've been using Henry Kister's books since long time. Started as a master student and now at work. Every time I used it I ended up with a solution or at least hints for my problems. Distillation Operation is an essential book if you consider work on distillation and/or absorption. It is essential because provides knowledge based on experience in operation, points out on common operational and design mistakes and help troubleshooting. Book's structure is very easy to follow and has got a wide range of references and good real examples. If you look for more fundamental design rules I'd recommend combine this one with Henry's Distillation Design.

I found this a very good reference on distillation, and a worthwhile resource on the PE exam. It however, as expected, assumes you understand interphase mass transfer and distillation theory.

Truly enlightening

This is really a delightful book. It's not exactly your basic biography, though. It gives the standard details of each person's life, then rounds out the story using actual contemporary accounts of events. Think of it as the 'color commentary' that would go along with a standard biography. I read it simultaneously with "The Lives of the Kings and Queens of France" by Duc de Castries and thoroughly enjoyed the added dimension this book brought to the experience. A great collector's item, too.

Interesting compilation of primary sources

This was a bit of a dry read and I had to force myself to finish it, but what kept me going was an interest in how contemporary, or almost contemporary sources wrote about the king or queen consort in question. It is not a typical historical account in that there is very little that is is actually from Prof. Law. Most of the content is primary sources that are tied together with paragraphs by Prof. Law.

This publication provides a good overall view. Unfortunately for my situation it did not address my power converter problem. Like most publications out there it concentrates more on the self contained RV or what I would call a Motor Home not the towable. I suspect this is due in part to the commonality of parts and variations in dealer provided options. It dosen't really explain how to test the converter/charger so for DIY it falls short.

The Only You Will Ever Need on Flow Meters

Highly detailed in every way. Complete equations suitable for computer programming. In fact, Rosemount and other companies refer to this handbook exclusively. The index is the best way to use this book. As handbooks go, it is easy to use and an excellent compilation of vendor information as well as original R&D information. There are a few quarks in the equations for integral orifices, but the actual errors are negligable. I got improved equations from Rosemount. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is that it takes some time to dig information from the handbook. It's all there, but, it takes time to digest it. You must have this book if you encounter instruments, particularly, flow metes, during your work. You must have this book!
